WHY CHOOSE US FOR FIGURE SKATE BLADE SHARPENING?
Because in figure skating, it's not just about whether the blade is sharp.
Professional sharpening means preserving the blade geometry, creating perfectly level edges and adjusting the hollow so that the skater feels confident on their edges, enjoys a smooth glide and has stability during take-offs, spins and landings.
At ICEDREAM, we have been providing professional figure skate servicing for 17 years. Every pair benefits from engineering precision, experience and an individual approach.
We sharpen each pair individually according to the skater's weight, skill level and intended use. We do not believe in a “one sharpening fits all” approach.
The result is a smooth, clean and silky glide across the ice, without unnecessary resistance and with maximum control.
Our services have long been trusted not only by competitive and recreational figure skaters, but also by skaters representing the Czech Republic. This is why skaters travel to us from all over the Czech Republic, and many customers regularly send us their skates and blades by post, including from abroad.
What Is Professional Figure Skate Blade Sharpening?
A figure skate blade is not sharp like a kitchen knife. Its underside has two working edges, an inside edge and an outside edge, with a precisely defined hollow between them (Radius of Hollow). This hollow plays a key role in how the blade feels on the ice.
A hollow that is too deep can feel aggressive, create excessive drag and make smooth skating more difficult. A hollow that is too shallow, on the other hand, reduces edge grip and can result in less confidence during turns, take-offs or landings.
Quality sharpening is therefore about much more than simply “making the blade sharp”. It is important to:
- preserve the original blade profile (rocker),
- create equally high inside and outside edges,
- select the correct hollow depth,
- remove imperfections without unnecessarily removing blade material,
- ensure smooth and consistent contact with the ice.
Every skater has different requirements. A child, competitive skater, ice dancer and adult recreational skater each need a different feel from their blades. That is why we do not use a universal sharpening setup.
